From Brewster you ride northward past Ice Pond with its very long straight stretch (one mile?) also - I had originaly thought the soft section of the trail was ostensibly for Equestrian use (and also runners/walkers) but does not seem so - seems there has been a change since the original 2006 design and trail usage. There is some non-trail surface (sidewalk, shared road) but very little and not much of a distraction from the beauty of the rest of the trail. When I got near the top the cooler temperatures and shade kept the trail snow covered. There are mile markers but they are easy to miss and I wasn't quite sure what they were counting up or down towards as they did not start at 0. The Maybrook Trailway is a paved multiuse trail stretching across Putnam and Dutchess counties in New York state. 12 memorial benches in less than 1.5 miles and business advertisements, complete with phone numbers have replaced the natural scenery in front of Lake Walton, what was once the most scenic section of the 15 mile stretch to the Walkway. One of the things I really liked is the lack of level crossings making this more of a bikers trail than a walking trail with a lot of trail where you will only see bikes for a few miles. I only wish it were more scenic but very happy we chose this way to ride. Enjoyable ride overall. So far, it is relatively undiscovered by users that can make biking treacherous: people walking dogs on leashes and small children weaving across the trail.
